Residential Level Mental Health
DCF Patients Only
*This program is for DCF patients only*
Inpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to Mental Health treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). At Rockland Treatment Center, we offer both short-term residential and long-term basis treatment and tailor treatment to the patient’s individual requirements.
Each client will receive a minimum of 30 hours a week of therapy, including 2 individual sessions.
Mental Health Therapy Programs
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a Licensed Therapist or Master’s Level counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective mental health treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Family Therapy
Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in the patient’s Residential Treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Creative Arts Therapy
Creativity is inherently healing and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, meditation, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client’s past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
Life Skills
Life skills training involves all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful mental health recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free but to thrive. Life skills teach the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
Services offered to each mental health client:
- Individual counseling
- Group counseling
- Counseling with families
Mental Health Education
Life skills training includes the following:
- Anger management
- Communication skills
- Employability skills
- Problem-solving
- Relapse prevention

- Symptom management
Psycho-educational Groups will help clients incorporate the life skills training information, which will help them understand various mental health symptoms/diagnoses and establish coping strategies to decrease symptoms and maintain/enhance a higher level of functioning and guide them to more productive choices in life.
Coping/Grounding Skills Development Groups are intended to cultivate the skills that our clients will need to achieve and maintain emotional stability. These skills may either be directly related to their mental health symptoms, for example, ways to communicate symptoms and manage stigma, avoid triggers, or cope with symptoms, or may apply to broader areas relevant to our client’s continued emotional stability such as ways to manage anger, solve problems, or relax to decrease emotional reaction/response to situations.
Barriers to Change Groups will utilize steps of change to address client’s denial and lack of clinical knowledge about their mental health symptoms. It will also increase their sense of commitment to continued treatment, effect change in maladaptive behaviors, and support behaviors conducive to their health and safety.
Non-verbal Therapies such as recreation therapy, art therapy, music therapy, or dance (movement) therapy provide the patient with alternative means of self-expression and problem resolution, training or advising in health and medical issues, employment or educational support services to assist patients in becoming financially independent and services for the purpose of:
- Managing patients with disorders who are stabilized;
- Evaluating patients’ needs for in-depth mental health assessment;
- Training patients to manage symptoms;
- Timely referral to an appropriate provider for mental health crises or the emergence of a primary mental health disorder when the provider is not staffed to address particular primary mental health problems.
Hours of Services
Each patient shall receive services of at least 30 hours of counseling per week. At Rockland Treatment Center, we understand how mental health can be affected by the substance. It causes an imbalanced life and may change an individual’s behavior.
Meditation and Art Therapy
Along with healthy nutrition and counseling, meditation and art are two combinations of treatments used at Rockland Treatment Center to release tension for overall wellness. As a leading rehab center, one of our missions is to amend treatment programs through various steps.
Meditation is proven to be a natural mood booster and enhance brain function. Daily meditation helps to promote mental and physical health after being deteriorated by the chemicals put in our bodies prior to entering treatment. At Rockland Treatment Center, meditation is an essential companion to go with other programs as it uses the most natural healing source. Meditation and art therapies help the individual cope with their dysfunctional behavior and emotions. Rockland Treatment Center provides meditation teaching to practice self-control through breathing and simple postures. This becomes an effective coping skill to achieve a peaceful mind.
Many people fail during meditation because they are not content enough and lack a sense of faith. Meditation helps to improve their feeling of contentment. This is because meditation postures express self-acceptance. We believe that when you accept your life the way it should be, your failure and your achievement, you will eventually reach an inner peace that any other exercises may not be able to accomplish. It helps to realize that you can achieve your goals. The meditation positions focus on creating a connection, a spiritual connection through meditation and movement that may encourage a higher understanding.
